The ECB says Kevin Pietersen has apologised for his texts criticising Andrew Strauss , but it remains to be seen whether he will play for England again. It remains to be seen if Kevin Pietersen will play for England again (Picture: PA) South African-born Pietersen has been dropped from the side for the third and final Test of the series between England and South Africa, which starts at Lord?s on Thursday, after sending texts criticising the England captain to members of the opposition. The saga has totally overshadowed the build-up to a match England must win to retain their world number one status. In his apology, Pietersen admitted he did send ?what you might call provocative texts to my close friends in the SA team. The texts were meant as banter between close friends. ?I need to rein myself in sometimes. I apologise to Straussy and the team for the inappropriate remarks at the press conference and for the texts. I truly didn?t mean to cause upset or tension particularly with important games at stake.? England managing director Hugh Morris said more talks were necessary on what should happen next, and it was vital that any discussions took place in private. ?Further discussions need to take place to establish whether it is possible to regain the trust and mutual respect required to ensure all parties are able to focus on playing cricket and to maintain the unity of purpose that has served us so well in recent years,? he said. ?Critically, those discussions should take place behind closed doors, rather than in the media spotlight.
